It didn't matter that the CMU Mavericks had beaten Colorado Mines 7 out of 8 times this season, or that they had just swept a four game series from them this past weekend. On Thursday night the only thing that mattered was that Mines' freshmen pitcher Christian Rooney entered the game in the second inning and shut out the Mavericks the rest of the way to give #6 Mines an unexpected 6-4 over the RMAC Tournament's #1 seed.

The Mavericks led 4-1 after 2 innings, but Rooney shut down the league's leading offense allowing just four hits while striking out seven. The Orediggers used a lead off walk in the eighth inning followed by an RBI triple to break a 4-4 tie.

The Mavericks will play Metro State at 12 noon today at Suplizio field in an elimination game. The Roadrunners  lost to CSU Pueblo 4-1 in the first game of the tournament.

Today's other match ups feature Mines against New Mexico Highlands, an 11-4 loser to Regis. That game is schedule for 3:30. In the night cap, Regis will take on CSU Pueblo at 7:00pm.

Today's Mavericks game can be heard on AM 1230 KEXO and on line at KEXO1230.com.
