Snow lovers rejoice! This was the scene at 9:49 this morning on the Grand Mesa. If you've been suffering withdrawals, your wait is over. In the event you're a sun lover, sorry, we have some bad news for you.

The Grand Mesa received a light dusting of snow this morning. While this shouldn't be  surprising considering the Mesa's altitude and the fact that it's late September, it still catches one off guard. Snow? Weren't we all getting sunburns about a week ago?

Take a look at the photos below. These were taken on May 29, 2016.

Let's crunch some numbers:

  • Snow on the Mesa on May 29, 2016
  • Snow on the Mesa on September 23, 2016
  • Number of days between the two dates = 117 days

That's right, only 117 days between the two sets of photos. Keep in mind, the snow remained on the Mesa long after I took the photos on May 29.

Love it or hate it, winter is on its way. Get up on the Grand Mesa as soon as you can. Some campgrounds have already closed. Others will be closing next weekend. Get the summer out of your system, enjoy the fall colors, and get ready for winter.
