Considering how many Mikes, Daves, Bobs, and Jims we all know, it is a bit surprising that none of those are on the list of most popular baby names for 2014.

If I was going to have a baby - which I'm not - and I was considering a name for the baby, I would first go to this list and look at the most popular names in the country -- and then choose something else. I wouldn't want my kid to have a weird name, but I would want it to be something that's a little unique.

Here is something you probably didn't know me. My first name is Stephen - but I've never gone by that name. I've always been Zane, which is my middle name. I always thought that when I got older I would go by Steve, but never did. What was cool in school was being the only Zane. When someone referred to me, nobody ever had to say "Zane who?" to clarify which one. I was the only one. There is a lot more of us now, but it's still pretty unique.

From the Baby Center, the most popular boys names for 2014 were Logan, Jacob, Caden, Ethan, Mason, Noah, Lucas, Liam, Aiden....and the most popular name - Jackson. It's actually becoming more popular to spell Jackson with an 'x' in the middle.

For the girls, the most popular baby names were Madelyn, Emily, Lily, Zoe, Mia, Isabella, Ava, Olivia, Emma, and at number one - Sophia.

Boys names that had the biggest drop in popularity were Braden, Chase, and Charlie, while the girls names declining include Lila, Sophie, and Julia.

If you are having a baby soon, look at this list --and name your kid something else. Oh, and by the way, there's nothing at all with the names Mike, Dave, Bob, and Jim -- it's just that we already have an awful lot of them.
