Lionel Richie: Why I Vacation With My Ex-Wife

There are a number of things that I can think of that a guy might not want to do with his ex-wife. Going on vacation with her would certainly be at the top of the list. That's why this is so unbelievable.Lionel Richie and his second wife, Diane, got divorced in 2004, but the singer reveals that, strangely, the two still go on vacation together.

Speaking to the British paper the Daily Mail about his favorite vacation spots and activities, Lionel describes how he enjoys taking his youngest kids, Miles and Sofia, to Paris and staying with them in one of that city's ritziest hotels. He says, "[They] usually bring some friends with them, and when they arrive they're like buckshot -- they scatter all over the place. My former wife Diane also comes along."

He explains, "People are surprised that I go on holiday with my ex-wife. But she's Mom and we're still best friends. What you have to understand is that she's the one who controls the tribe. Mom knows the signals better than Dad. When you want to control the mob, you have to take the main traffic controller with you."

"Everything works perfectly well," he adds. "The kids have adjoining suites, Diane has her room, and I have mine. Simple."

Lionel also says that in a few months, he'll be taking his kids to the Great Wall of China. It's not clear if Diane will be accompanying him on that trip.

As you would expect, the joint vacation is about the kids - not about the ex-spouses. I get it. What I'm not so sure about it is the part about being best friends with his ex. Is that even possible?
