UPDATE – Joni Mitchell Is Reportedly Not in a Coma and Unresponsive
UPDATE: A new post on Joni Mitchell's Facebook page says that "contrary to rumors circulating on the internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts."
Joni Mitchell, who was rushed to a hospital a month ago, is reportedly in a coma and unresponsive. TMZ reports that Mitchell is still in UCLA Medical Center and still unconscious, "with no immediate prospects for getting better."
The news follows an update on the singer-songwriter's health scare of March 31 that claimed that the 71-year-old Mitchell was improving. A post on her Facebook page on April 4 read, "Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably. We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day. We've created a web page to aggregate Facebook and Twitter messages so that Joni can see all the well wishes people are sending her way."
According to the new TMZ report, a friend of Mitchell's, Leslie Morris, filed legal documents to "obtain a conservatorship over the legendary singer." Apparently Mitchell has no close relatives to care for her.
Mitchell was initially rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after she was found unconscious in
her home in late March. At the time, it was reported that “it’s unclear what prompted the medical emergency, but it appears to be quite serious.”
Last year, Mitchell said in an interview that she suffers from a rare skin condition called Morgellons. The ailment confined her to home, she said, and has made wearing clothes unbearable. The condition is considered controversial among medical professionals, many of whom claim that it is a psychological issue. Mitchell also claimed that her illness is incurable.
