When you're a fireman and your fire department lacks the funds for an alarm to alert you when you need to respond to an emergency, you have to get creative. This Detroit fire station devised a simple, but effective fire alarm using a pop can and a lot of ingenuity.

It's hard to believe than in this day of immense technology, emergency messages are still delivered by FAX to the fire station. Having to use a pop can to notify firefighters of the incoming message gives you a real sense of how depressed the economy in Detroit really is. That should be depressing to all of us.
