If you're going to have a four-day weekend that doesn't include traveling,  you better have a plan or else you're going to have regret.

For me, it is a horrible feeling to come off a four-day weekend with nothing to show for it. That's why it's important to have a plan whenever you are facing some much-needed time off. Initially, you may be so happy to have some time off that you feel like doing nothing, but, I can tell you, a weekend of doing nothing is no fun.

So, going into one of those four-day weekends, I made a plan of things I wanted to do or accomplish. I may have not conquered any mountains or changed the course of human history, but I went back to work feeling I had made the most of my time off. A mix of work and play provided just the right balance.

The weather in western Colorado this time of year can be pretty iffy, so you have to have an indoor and outdoor agenda and let mother nature dictate the schedule. Take a look at my four-day weekend and it may give you some ideas of what you can do the next time you have a long weekend in Grand Junction.
