If you are planning to raft, tube, or float the Colorado River over the holiday weekend, be aware that the Mesa County Sheriff's Office is warning river goers of major hazards near Fruita.

The MCSO is warning that multiple large trees have fallen into the river, causing hazards for boats and tubes. Because of the spring runoff, the river is moving quicker than normal. The MCSO advises all river traffic to use the right channel that follows I-70.

The area and suggested route are clearly marked with signs.

The obstruction in the left channel consists of three large Cottonwood trees. As the river levels lower, the trees will cause the left channel to be almost completely blocked.

Make sure you have a fun and safe time on the river this summer by following the safety precautions as recommended by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and always wear an approved floatation device.
