It seems there are two ways to be involved with Mesa County Search and Rescue: 1) Be the person they are trying to rescue, or 2) volunteer for the rescue team. The Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team is seeking four new members, and you might just be the person they're looking for.

What are the required qualifications? Applicants should be outdoor enthusiasts, in good physical condition, and able to walk several miles across rough terrain while carrying a heavy backpack.

Prospective members must complete an application. Forms are available at the front counter of the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, 215 Rice Street in Grand Junction, during business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also print an application from their website.

Interested applicants must pass a background check. There also exists an interview process which all applicants must complete.

The application deadline is Thursday, December 31, 2015.
