Word is out that a renowned recording studio located in Grand Junction will be shutting down this fall and making the move to the east coast. This is devastating news for the Colorado music scene.

For years, musicians from all over the United States have come to Grand Junction to record at Aspen Leaf Recording Studio located on the Redlands. The studio's owner/operator Ken Dravis sent out a statement yesterday (February 26) announcing the studio's closure and relocation.

Hello friends...After 11 magnificent years in Grand Junction, Aspen Leaf Recording will be closing it's doors in Grand Junction this fall and will be soon relocating to the east coast. I was hoping to keep the studio within Colorado, however, the joint property owner reneged upon an agreed price last September. Once the transition East is complete, Aspen Leaf Recording will again be open for the same comprehensive services you've come to love & know over the years. I want to thank the hundreds of you who have become my family & friends and for giving your all within our studio. In addition to the multitude of demos and other audio projects, you've been part of over 60 full CD albums we created from the ground up. (No backing tracks. No "Band-In-A-Box). Just real music! YOUR music!! I wish all of you continued & complete success in your endeavours and know that I am available to you anytime to discuss your project or musical direction. My very best to you. - Ken Dravis via Facebook

Over the years it has been my pleasure to do three recording sessions at Aspen Leaf. For the first recording, an ensemble I play in, the Frank Bregar Orchestra, hired Aspen Leaf to record a demo album.

For the next two recordings, I was hired as a session player to lay down the bass tracks for two singles. One recording, Angel by Brian Tannen, received national radio play.

Aspen Leaf, and its owner, have been invaluable assets to Western Colorado. The projects rolling out of that studio have been highly successful. Fortunately, Ken will keep the magic rolling, but from a new location. Our loss is the east coast's gain.
Thank you Ken Dravis and Aspen Leaf Recording Studio. It's been a pleasure. Keep your ears open for future projects from this studio. Ken insists he will maintain his ties with Grand Junction and even drop in from time to time.
