Often times, the mention of a "municipal' course sends shudders down the spine of golfers, but there's no need for shudders when it comes to Grand Junction's Tiara Rado Golf Course, recently named one of the top municipal courses in Colorado.

According to Colorado Biz Magazine, Tiara Rado is one of the top 15 municipal courses in the state.

There's plenty to like about Tiara Rado beginning with course conditions, which are improving weekly. The course is generally well-groomed, and offers the appearance of a top-notch course.

There are plenty of challenging holes like the par 4 #9, which has yet to surrender a par to me. And, there are plenty of grace giving holes, like the short par 4 #7, or the extremely short par 3 #14.

As golf goes, the price is decent at $38 for 18 holes, $50 with a cart.

And, of course,  you can't beat the view, playing under the backdrop of the Colorado National Monument.

So, if you are thinking a city course can't be a great golf experience - think again. Grand Junction can be proud to have a course like Tiara Rado.

Congratulations to all the city staff at Tiara Rado for making it one of the top municipal courses in the entire state.
