Do you recall when Lois' Place, a long-running local restaurant, closed down last November? Well, the crew from Lois' are getting ready to open a new restaurant this Monday.

Do you recall when Los Reyes closed last fall? Take the old Los Reyes location at 811 S. 7th Street, combine it with the crew and menu from Lois' Place, and POOF, you have Grand Junction's newest restaurant.

I ran into Pam, a twenty-plus year veteran of Lois' Place. She was on her way to work, making final preparations to open Grand Junction's newest breakfast/lunch eatery, Sunrise Restaurant. Pam, along with other former employees of Lois' Place, have been working for over a month to get the new establishment ready for business.

Sunrise Restaurant will open this Monday morning, January 7, offering the same menu (or at least similar) and recipes you enjoyed at Lois' Place. Personally, I was a big fan of the menu at Lois', and am delighted someone took it over.

The new restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is only a guess, but it seems safe to say the old Los Reyes building on S. 7th Street offers far more square footage than the location occupied by Lois'. That was my only criticism of the old location - it was pretty squished.

This is not a commercial, nor an endorsement. The new restaurant isn't advertising on our stations. More than anything, I love local, independently owned businesses. It's encouraging to see Grand Junction residents enjoying the opportunity to help shape a new endeavor.

I'm looking forward to Monday. Why not swing by? Hopefully, 30 years from now, this business will still be up and running, and you'll be able to say, "I was there the day they opened."
