There have been reports of several scams targeting senior citizens in the Grand Junction area.

According to KREX, in one case, scammers duped more than $25,000 and authorities believe there are residents that may not know if they've been had, or haven't reported it yet.

The latest scam to hit Grand Junction is "lottery sweepstakes scam". This scam can be a simple letter to more elaborate package of documents.

This scam can consist of recipients receiving notification that they won a large some of money, and to claim the prize they need to send money to cover taxes and processing.

Authorities are advising seniors to be leery about responding to unsolicited phone calls and mail -- if it sounds too good to be true, then it most likely is.
