The Grand Junction Police Department is cautioning area residents after it received numerous reports about a possible scam that appears to be hitting the area again.

According to police, the scam involves a caller using a blocked number, but identifying themselves as being with UPS. The caller attempts to verify the name and address of the recipient in order to deliver a package.  When the recipient challenges the caller, the person immediately hangs up.  UPS has confirmed that they do not use the phone to contact package recipients.

Police urge residents to exercise caution when receiving an unsolicited piece of mail, phone call, package, or email, and do not use the phone number or website offered by the person who contacted you. They suggest using contact information that you know is legitimate, such as phone numbers or websites listed on bank, credit card statements, or verified webpages.
