The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) want you to turn in your unused and expired prescription drugs.

The agencies are hosting a Drug Take Back Day this Saturday (September 26) to offer a way for area residents to properly and safely dispose of prescription drugs they no longer need or have expired.

By disposing of unused drugs, people reduce the risk of theft, abuse and accidental misuse of drugs in their home.

Bringing the drugs to the take back day event instead of flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash prevents the drugs from becoming a health or safety hazard.

The GJPD and DEA can only dispose of pills and patches. Liquids, sharps and needles will not be accepted. The service is free and anonymous and no questions are asked.

The Take Back Event is held at the Grand Junction Police Department at 555 Ute Avenue Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
