If you are a golfer,  you won't want to miss Grand Junction's First Annual Range Night on Friday, July 31.

The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Range Night at the Tiara Rado driving range from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday in cooperation with Taylor Made Golf.

You'll have a chance to check out new clubs and actually hit balls to see how they feel and perform. This is a rare opportunity to try out some top-line equipment in a real golf setting. Swinging a club in the shop is one thing when you are thinking of buying a new club, but letting it rip and seeing how the ball actually flies is another. If you're going to spend significant money on new equipment,  you want to make sure it's a good fit.

You may find yourself in the same position I was in last week. The day before a golf scramble I'm at the driving range when suddenly the head of my 3-wood decides to separate itself from the end of the shaft and goes flying down the range. End of the club. It happens. Golf clubs don't last forever.

In addition to trying out new equipment, attendees will have a chance to win a new wedge. Maybe that will be the key to improving your short game, but don't expect miracles. The only cure there is some diligent and consistent practice.

To make it a truly family affair, and so you don't have to worry about dinner, food and beverage will be available for purchase and there will be a bump-n-jump for the kids. Plus, Volley's will have bag boards and volleyball available as well.

This should be a fun event, but we need to warn you the cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. That admission price essentially provides you the opportunity to try out several different clubs, and any range balls you hit will be provided. But, the cool thing is you don't have to spend the evening away from your family. Bring them along.

By the way, if you are paying with a credit card you will need to pay at the clubhouse before 7 p.m. and take your receipt to the range.

If you have any questions, call the Tiara Rado clubhouse at 970.254-3830.
