Grand Junction's divorce rate is among the highest in the country, coming in at #10 on the list of cities with the highest divorce rates. Do people come to Grand Junction to get divorced, or does living in Grand Junction lead to  a greater likelihood of divorce? Maybe we have more divorce lawyers working here than in other cities.

The Huffington Post reports that according to the American Community Survey and calculations by the Daily Beat, Grand Junction makes the top ten in cities with the highest divorce rates.

Panama City, Florida is the city with the highest divorce rate in the U.S., with three other Florida cities making the top 10. Other cities making the top 10 include Charleston, West Virginia; Medford, Oregon; Sierra Vista, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; and Pueblo, Colorado.

The news of Grand Junction's high divorce rate is really nothing new. In 2011 the Daily Sentinel reported that  nearly 16% of the  Grand Valley's population was divorced.

We don't know the reason why the divorce rate is so high in Grand Junction. It's been said that the leading cause of divorce is marriage. Think about it, it's true. The one thing that all divorced people have in common is that they were married.

It truly is sad that so many marriages end in divorce. But, divorce happens, and divorce happens regardless of where you live. Some city has to be in the #10 spot, and Grand Junction just happens to be it.
