More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's Disease - what if one of them was YOUR mom - or your dad- or your spouse? Would you join the Walk to End Alzheimer's this Saturday in Grand Junction?

According to figures from the Alzheimer's Association, a woman in her 60s has a 1 in 6 chance of developing Alzheimer's. That's almost twice the risk of developing breast cancer. Nearly two thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women.  If your mom is not one of them today, she could be among them tomorrow. Imagine waking up one day, and your mom no longer recognizes you - and doesn't even know that she's your mother. It is truly heartbreaking experience.

That is why the Grand Junction Walk to End Alzheimer's is such an important event and why KOOL 107.9 supports the event every year.

It's coming up this Saturday at Long Family Memorial Park --right next to Central High School, and we encourage you to consider being involved. The walk draws attention to this horrible disease and raises funds for the Alzheimer's Association, which provides research, care, and support for those who are dealing with Alzheimer's -both as patients and as care givers.

Maybe you  and your family have been fortunate enough to escape the horrors of Alzheimer's, but think for a moment about how you would feel if it was your someone in your family. And maybe it is. If so, please help us in the fight against Alzheimer's.

Saturday morning registration begins at 8:00 with a light breakfast, opening ceremony at 9, and the walk begins at 9. Ed Chandler and I will be there to play some tunes and emcee the event. Hope to see you there!
