With a prestigious job like the governor of Colorado, you're probably thinking Governor Hickenlooper rakes in the dough. We were surprised by his annual paycheck.

Seriously, if you're the executive chief of a US state, you'd think the compensation would be better. On average, a US governor makes about $137,415 per year. With the highest being under $200,000 to the lowest around $70,000.

These average salaries are above the national household income in the United States at $52,000 a year.

Pensylvania's governor holds the top spot with a salary of $190,823, while Maine's governor brings in $70,000 a year.

So where does Governor Hickenlooper stand? $90,000. That places him at #47 on the list.

Pretty surprising, huh?
