Do what now? Rats? No. Not the vermin, the race! The Desert R.A.T.S. (Race Across The Sand) is an annual event that sets runners on a course from Grand Junction, on the Kokopelli Trail, to Moab, Utah.

Sounds fun, doesn't it? Well, not to me, because I'm not a runner, but I know quite a few people who are, and this right here is quite the endurance challenge.

If you have traveled to Moab, you know how beautiful the interior looks off the highway, so it's no surprise that running a race through there will be breathtaking. Just think about the amazing views, the moments of absolute solitude, when it's just you and the trail, nevermind anyone else, and the wildlife you will, well, run across. This can only add up to an unforgettable experience.

But this race isn't for the newcomer, just getting into distance racing. There are a lot of topographical changes, different elevations, running surfaces and of course, distance.

This year's Desert R.A.T.S. is scheduled to begin on June 18th and will run through the 24th. Add in the camaraderie of other runners, relaxing after each day, camping out under the absolute beauty surroundings and the feeling of accomplishment, and this is one event you won't want to miss.
