Young bicyclists have a chance to test their skills and learn something new at the Fruita Back to School Bike Rodeo.

Kids are invited to sharpen their bicycling skills and learn more about safe cycling from instructors at the free event on August 13 from 9 a.m. until Noon at the Fruita Community Center parking lot.

Kids who bring their own bikes can get an inspection and register their bike with the Fruita Police Department. Even if a child doesn't own a bike or can't bring theirs, they can still participate using a loaner bike available at the event.

Children attending the rodeo who don't own a helmet will be able to get one at no cost.

Beginning riders using training wheels can try the special 'learners course' designed to give them more confidence to ride as they transition from four to two wheel riding.

All riders will be able to learn about cycling to and from school with the Safe Routes to School courses also offered as part of the bike rodeo.
