It is still the flu season, but the risk of getting the flu may be higher for Denver Broncos fans than for non-fans.

According to FOX News, a group of researchers analyzed statistics from 1974-2009 and they found that having a team in the Super Bowl resulted in an 18% increase in flu deaths for those over the age of 65.

The reason is simple. You want to watch the big game, and many people  have a small gathering of friends and family over to watch it together. What happens is people that already have the flu are passing it on to others in these small settings. People are coughing and sneezing on each other, and sharing chips and dip, and the bug is easily spread.

So, a word of caution. If you are attending a Super Bowl party on Sunday with friends, watch out for possible sickies, do your best to avoid them, and do plenty of hand-washing.

Having said all that, I've got to believe that true Broncos fans would rather be sick with the flu Monday morning than being sick from watching their team lose for an NFL record 6th time in the Super Bowl.
