The Salvation Army in Grand Junction is now taking applications for Christmas assistance for those in need here in the Grand Valley, and if you are planning to apply there are five things you will need.

The holiday season is upon us, and while for many it's a joyous time - for others it represents nothing but struggle and shortcomings. Last year, more than 1700 Mesa County families and seniors received holiday aid from the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army has a process which enables those in the Grand Valley who are truly in need to receive the assistance they deserve. That application process is now underway and will continue through November 30.

Here are five things you will need when you apply.

  • Photo ID
  • Social Security cards for each adult in the household
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of address (rent receipt or utility bill)
  • An appointment

Applicants should also be prepared to provide clothing sizes for children and a toy "wish list" for  kids 14 and under.

To schedule an appointment, call the Salvation Army office at 970-245-7513.
