There are plenty of dreadful diseases that plague mankind, and while it is impossible to definitively say which one is the worst, Alzheimer's Disease without a doubt is on the list and here are five facts  you should know about Alzheimer's Disease.

  • Alzheimer's Disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States and affects some 5.3 million Americans, including some 72,000 in Colorado.
  • Alzheimer's Disease is the only cause of death in the top 10 that can not be prevented, slowed, or cured.
  • Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's Disease are women
  • Every 67 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer's Disease
  • In 2015, Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias will cost the nation around $226 billion.\

Clearly, Alzheimer's Disease is a huge problem in this country and in the state of Colorado. And that's why KOOL 107.9 is supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer's for the 13th consecutive year.

The event, put on by the local Alzheimer's Association chapter, is being held on Saturday, September 12th at Long Family Memorial Park near Central High School. Teams and individuals will come together to walk to support the cause, and to raise much needed funds that largely go toward helping people suffering from Alzheimer's and their care givers.

As the years go by, more and more of us are being affected by Alzheimer's Disease, be it a family member or friend. We would ask you to consider being involved this year in the Grand Junction and Montrose Walk to End Alzheimer's.Here is more information about this year's walk. We hope to see you there!
