For coffee lovers, today is a day to celebrate your drinking habit because it's International Coffee Day.(September 29) And we celebrate by sharing with you five cool facts about coffee.

What's really cool about International Coffee Day is that you actually can celebrate it around the world on different days. Most countries of the world recognize today as coffee day, including Australia, Canada, England, Sweden and Japan,

However, Switzerland celebrated on Monday, Mongolia on September 20th, Ireland on the 19th, and Costa Rica on the 12th.

Several countries didn't want to wait until the last half of the year to honor this great beverage. China did it in early April, Denmark on May 6th, Brazil on May 24th, and Columbia on June 27th.

So, why have International Coffee Day? Well, it's the brainchild of the International Coffee Organization which has been around since 1963 to promote coffee, it's production, marketing, and distribution.

Coffee is a popular beverage around the globe. According to the ICO,  in 2014 more than 149 million 60kg bags of coffee were consumed worldwide.By the way, just to give you an idea of how much coffee that is, 60 kilograms is about 120 pounds.

  • There are studies that show coffee drinkers are 65% less likely to get Alzheimer's Disease, a leading cause of dementia.
  • People who drink 4 cups of coffee a day is 80% less likely to get cirrhosis of the liver, which develops from several diseases affecting the liver.
