Orchard Mesa's Eagle Rim Park suffered fire damage over the 4th of July weekend, resulting in scorched ground along the banks of the Colorado River. While trail walkers have lost some of the scenic beauty of the area, many animals have lost their homes.

The very scorched area has been called home to a number of feral cats for a number of years.

With the brush burned away, it becomes obvious the degree to which people have been leaving their trash along the trail and river bank. This is a unfortunate considering there are trash cans at both ends of this short trail.

There is evidence of fireworks all along the trail and in the surrounding area.

The entire situation is regrettable considering Eagle Rim Park has already endured more than its fair share of vandalism. In any case, the next time you walk the trail leading to the pedestrian bridge at Eagle Rim Park, you'll be doing so with a little less foliage.
