February 21 marks an important date in the career of Elvis Presley. It was on this date in 1956 that Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel" debuted on the charts. The song became his first chart hit and spent eight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Pop charts.Over the course of his lifetime, Elvis scored a total of 18 number one pop hits. He also managed to have hits on the Country, Adult Contemporary and R&B charts.

Elvis also was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1971), has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986) and was the first rock 'n' roll artist to be featured on a U.S. postage stamp.

We salute the "King of Rock & Roll" and his first big hit with this rare live 1956 performance from the Milton Berle Show.
