Rumor is circulating around the valley about a new national chicken restaurant opening in Clifton. Is this franchise really coming to town?

It is true that a Popeye's drive-thru restaurant was proposed for Clifton -- Clifton, New Jersey, that is. The national chain proposed converting an old bank building in Clifton, New Jersey, into a restaurant last May.

What about Clifton, Colorado? When Freddy's Frozen Custard broke ground on two locations in Grand Junction, many speculated it was only a matter of time before Popeye's made its way to the Valley.

It appears the rumor is true. Ground has already been broken on the new Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen at 3223 I-70 Business Loop. A letter from Galloway and Company, Inc., describes the new building as being 3,149 square feet with 32 vehicle parking spaces and two bike spaces.

If you drive by the Clifton McDonald's, you'll see loaders removing blacktop from the lot between the golden arches and O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

The website Indeed.com has a job listing posted for this new restaurant. The listing reads:

  • General Manager
  • Popeye's Restaurants, - Clifton, CO
  • As the General Manager, you will be responsible for establishing, opening, and operating our business.

There you have it. People speculated a Popeye's would be here before long. I can honestly say I've never been to a Popeye's. Word is they're really good. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
