FAA Radar Tower is Not To Be Used For Target Practice
Out in the desert in front of the Grand Mesa sits a big orange tower that is used by the FAa for guiding planes and for air defense. Someone decided to use the radar tower for target practice recently and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office is trying to find out who.
The MCSO was notified this week that there was damage to the tower. The tower which sits off of C Road in the desert had to be shut down to access the damages. They found damage to the radar dish and the red warning lights. If it needs to be replaced, it will cost upwards of $250,000.
The tower is operating, and no air traffic was affected. There were 7 areas of damage found on the tower.
