On Tuesday, February 17th at 7:30 pm, CMU Music faculty Darin Kamstra will present a solo percussion recital in the Love Recital Hall. The recital will feature a premier of Kamstra's composition Rockin' Pauken for solo timpani (pauken is German for timpani). He will also perform Polaris by Mark Ford on marimba and Prim for snare drum by Askell Masson. The musical theme in Prim is based on the series of prime numbers from 1 to 43. Kamstra will also perform two duets: his original composition Mambo Metamorphosis for alto saxophone and percussion with Jun Watabe, and Piece for Oboe and Improvisatory Percussion with Mary Lindsey Bailey. He will also play Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island on jazz vibraphone and marimba.
