It’s that time of the week again where everyone is preparing for the weekend. And, as usual, here’s a list of events going on this weekend:

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

  • Grand Junction High School’s Drama Department will present Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple at 7:00 p.m. at Grand Junction High School’s auditorium, 1400 North 5TH Street in Grand Junction. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
  • The beloved 1970s pop culture phenomenon and Saturday morning cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock comes to life on the musical stage. Colorado Mesa University’s Theater Department is presenting Schoolhouse Rock Live! at 7:30 p.m. at CMU’s Robinson Theater, 1100 North Avenue in Grand Junction. With clever songs that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics to a generation, this family-friendly musical is considered good, clean and educational fun. The event is rated G. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $6 for students.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

  • The Grand Valley Kennel Club AKC Dog Show will take place throughout the weekend at the Mesa County Fairgrounds Complex, 2785 U.S. Highway 50 in Grand Junction. For more information, call 255-7100.
  • One of the better-known festivals in the area, the 99th Annual Fruita Fall Festival takes place in Fruita. Several activities on tap for the weekend, including food vendors, a carnival, street dances, contests, and much more. Events will take place from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m. Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, and 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
  • Another proud tradition taking place this weekend is the 32nd Annual Parade of Homes. The Housing and Building Association of Northwestern Colorado is presenting the event this weekend and on October 5 and 6. This is a self-guided tour of quality designed and built homes in Western Colorado. Tour maps are given at the time tickets are purchased. Tours will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at all City Market locations in Grand Junction and Fruita.

  • Weather permitting, a Telescope Night will take place at Riverbend Park in Palisade. Join John Sabal for a night under the stars and check out the sights in the eyepiece of a huge telescope. Participants are asked to arrive about 30 minutes before sunset, and to bring warm clothes and a lawn chair.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

The event will benefit Colorado Discover Ability and SAMS (Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders). There are four divisions: competitive, non-competitive, able-bodied and disabled.
