The 'Old Kiln Trail' at the top of Little Park Road received its moniker due to the fact that it includes just that, an old kiln. I paid my first visit to this trail on Tuesday, while the hike was excellent, I'm sad to report that no kiln was found.

Note: I am light years away from being a great explorer. For that matter, I can't even read a map. In any case, my search for the legendary old kiln resulted in failure.

As an added piece of irony, I'd never even heard of the Old Kiln Trail until last Sunday. This is a bit disturbing considering the house I grew up in is on Little Park Road, barely a mile from the trail head.

It seems as if very few people take on the expedition to find the artifact.

Upon setting out from the parking area, it was obvious no one had visited the trail in some time. Not a single footprint was to be found.

According to gjhikes.com, the round trip hike from the parking area to the kiln in only 30 minutes. With this in mind, it becomes clear I either took an entirely wrong path, or I was standing right on top of it, and didn't even know it. Either option is entirely possible.

The website at gjhikes.com offers a detailed route to kiln, instructions I thought I had followed. Another expedition will set out later this week.

In the meantime, before I invest 30 minutes and a bottle of water on this major undertaking, please share any knowledge you may have as to whether or not the kiln still exists.
