Daylight Saving Time arrived over the weekend as we sprang forward an hour losing a little sleep in the process. There must be a better way.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of having more daylight at the end of the day, so I'm grateful for Daylight Saving Time. But, like a lot of people I'm not exactly thrilled at the idea of losing an hour of sleep in the middle of my weekend.

So, what alternatives are there?

Here's one. How about if wait until Sunday afternoon to spring forward an hour? Would we really miss that hour in the middle of the afternoon?

How about this innovative idea. We spring forward in 15 minute increments. Beginning Thursday night we move  the clock ahead 15 minutes. Friday night another 15 minutes. Saturday we do it again. And, finally Sunday night we spring forward the final 15 minutes. Losing 15 minutes of sleep four times somehow seems less detrimental to me than losing an entire hour in one night.

Here's one that the average worker would love, but the employer would hate. We spring forward at 4:00 on Monday afternoon. It gets to be 4:00, and BOOM, it's suddenly 5:00 and it's time to go home. No one had ever died from not working enough, but we all know about the health hazards to sleep deprivation and the lack of proper rest, so this definitely seems like a better alternative.

Sure, my ideas are crazy, but at least maybe it can get the ball rolling and someone smarter than me can think of a better way to implement Daylight Saving Time than robbing each of us of a much-need hour of sleep.
