As I understand it, the father is upset that his son graduated from college three months ago and rather than seek employment has spent the majority of his time playing video games.

Dad's way of making his point is almost diabolical or even insane. The son's reaction is equally crazy.

Why didn't the dad confiscate the games and hold them hostage until the son became gainfully employed? Probably because it wouldn't be nearly as dramatic or funny.
