A county-wide celebration is planned to commemorate Police Week in Mesa County.

National Police Week is May 15 through May 21. This week will be a combined effort from the Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff's Department, Palisade Police Department, and the Fruita Police Department.National Police Week is designed to honor the 123 men and women in law enforcement that lost their lives in 2015 in the line of duty.

Here's how the week will go.

  • May 16 - HONOR GUARD FLAG CEREMONIES - MCSO @ 7:30AM and GJPD@ 8:00AM
  • May 16 - MESA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS POLICE WEEK PROCLAMATION -Commissioner's Hearing Room    9:00AM
  • May 17 - COFFEE WITH A COP - Trader's Coffee 2648 Patterson, 7AM-9AM
  • May 17 - FRUITA CITY COUNCIL POLICE WEEK PROCLAMATION -Fruita Civic Center (2nd Floor) 7:00PM
  • May 18 - GRAND JUNCTION CITY COUNCIL POLICE WEEK PROCLAMATION - City Hall, 7:00PM
  • May 19 - COFFEE WITH A COP - Main Street Bagels, 7AM-9AM
  • MAY 19 - LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES TOUCH-A TRUCK - MCSO, 6PM-7PM
  • May 19 - MEMORIAL VIGIL - MSCO, 7:00PM

The public is invited and encouraged to attend these events and show support by wearing a blue ribbon, available at no cost at GJPD, MSCO, or City Hall.

It's a good time to remember those that have given their lives, and to honor those that put their lives on the line for us every single day.
