Contrary to Reports, Man on Grand Mesa Not Mauled by Bear
Contrary to initial reports, a man on the Grand Mesa was not mauled by a bear over the weekend.
According to 9 News, the unidentified hunter reported a bear attacked him, causing him to drive his ATV over a small cliff into some large rocks resulting in extensive injuries. However, evidence seems to indicate there was no attack.
A spokesman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife said a three-day investigation brought conclusive evidence that there was not a bear attack, although the individual is certain he saw a bear.
The hunter's ATV was reportedly parked on Forest Service Road 105 above Powderhorn when the alleged attack took place.
