Grand Junction residents have been generous in donating equipment to the Community Food Bank, but they didn't have commercial refrigeration at their new facility, until now.

Thanks to Horizon Sunrise Rotary, the Food Bank now has a large commercial three door refrigerator.

The Food Bank, which moved to a new location earlier this year, has chest freezers and refrigerators. But none have enough space to handle all the cold storage needed during the summer when there is an abundance of locally grown fruits and vegetables donated by area farmers and fruit growers.

Community Food Bank Director, Darcy Johnson says,

This is good news for food bank clients who look forward to fresh fruits and vegetables when when available. The donation also helps support the food bank's mission of providing nutritious food to community families in need."

In addition to fruits and vegetables, the new commercial refrigerator can also handle perishables needing refrigeration including dairy products, breads and pastry.

The Grand Junction Community Food Bank is staffed by volunteers and provides emergency food supplies to Mesa County residents with significant need.
