Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering free admission at state parks to veterans and active military personnel during the month of August.

Earlier this year, the Colorado General Assembly enacted legislation authorizing the free admission to any state park or recreation area during the month of August each year, as long as money is appropriated by the legislature. This year, $150,000 was appropriated to cover the loss of revenue.

The free admission offer is available to military personnel honorably discharged, discharged under honorable conditions, or with a general discharge as well as active duty, reservist and National Guard personnel during the month of August. The freebie is for admission only, and does not apply to camping and other amenities and services.

Eligible service members receive a hang-up tag that will allow access for all occupants of the vehicle, as long as the military member is present. Free passes are currently available at every CPW office or park, but are not available by mail or on-line.
