Colorado Mesa University’s football team opened up their season last Saturday with a 44-37 overtime win over Dixie State. Coming off that win, one of the Mavericks received the honor of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

CMU junior DJ Hubbard was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his contributions to Saturday’s game.

Hubbard ran the opening kick-off back 95 yards for CMU’s first touchdown. In addition, Hubbard had another return of 49 yards, plus blocking one field goal and adding 60 rushing yards and five receiving.

Colorado Mesa will be on the road this weekend to Kingsville, Texas for a non-conference game. The Mavericks will take on Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6:00 p.m. Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230.
