Despite the rainy conditions Saturday night, Colorado Mesa University’s football team held its own in the Mavericks’ 17-14 loss against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Colorado Mesa was the first to score with Ryan Sheehan’s 34-yard field goal attempt. Texas A&M-Kingsville answered back on their first play from scrimmage when quarterback Trey Mitchell ran 67 yards for a touchdown.

The Mavericks scored their remaining points in the form of a touchdown (from Aric Kaiser) and two safeties. CMU’s second safety of the game came at the 3:10 mark of the third quarter, and was the last score of the game made by either team.

Colorado Mesa will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next Saturday (September 20) against Adams State.
