The Colorado Mesa Maverick women's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second consecutive year, and I can say it's been a pleasure to be along for the journey. Broadcasting their games on ESPN Radio 1230 has certainly been one of the highlights of my 31 years in broadcasting.

For the last four years I have been blessed to broadcast CMU sports on the radio. It's not my 'regular' job, so it often feels like I am moonlighting. There was a time in my life when I wanted to do sportscasting for a living. I was 18 years old at the time. At age 19 I started in the broadcast booth doing football games for Evangel University. The fact is, I had no business being in the booth at that point, but it was invaluable experience and I'm grateful for it.

I soon realized that sportscasting wasn't something I wanted to do full-time, and there was a period of time when I thought I had called my last game on the radio - and I was happy about it. But, then I got the opportunity to do CMU sports and it has been nothing but a huge blessing in my life.

The last two seasons of Mavericks Women's basketball has been something special. They've only lost 3 games in that span, and I've only been a part of one of those losses. (Jermaine Williams called the other two, and he will be calling the games this weekend at the NCAA South Central Regional) For me, that means more than 90% of the time I have enjoyed a Maverick win. In these four years of doing Mavericks sports I have become such a fan, and it's definitely more fun to do wins than losses. But, losses are part of it and the fact is, you can't win them all.

For now, I'm moving to the baseball booth for my "second" job - but I will be listening to ESPN Radio 1230 Friday afternoon when the Mavericks meet Midwestern State in the quarterfinals of the regional tournament. Win or lose this weekend, I am a huge fan, and will remain grateful to have been a part of two very memorable seasons of CMU women's basketball.
