The Colorado Mesa Mavericks return home this Saturday to face the high scoring offense of New Mexico Highlands, as the Mavericks try to win back to back games for the first time this season.

The Mavericks (3-2, 2-1) are coming off a 48-31 road win over Black Hills State that saw freshman quarterback Andrew Cota make his first collegiate start, throwing for three touchdowns and running for two more. It's the second time this season CMU has scored over 40 points.

Meanwhile, Highlands (2-3, 2-1) comes to Grand Junction averaging  over 36 points and 565 yards per game. The Cowboys beat Western New Mexico and Fort Lewis handily, and fell to #17 Colorado Mines last week 42-35.

The Mavericks had a number of big plays in the passing game last week, something that has missing from the offense, and they are going to need plenty of big plays Saturday to keep up with Highlands. Cowboys quarterback Lance Orender has thrown 25 touchdown passes in five games, and wide receiver Tyler Slavin has 65 catches with 11 touchdowns.

The Cowboys beat the Mavericks by 4 the last time they came to Grand Junction, and then the Mavericks returned the favor by winning by 5 last year in Las Vegas.

This should be an entertaining game with lots of scoring and big plays. You can catch all of the action on the radio on ESPN 1230 AM, and on line at 1230 ESPN.com.
