The Colorado Mesa Mavericks host nationally ranked CSU Pueblo this Saturday(Nov.8) at Stocker Stadium.

The Mavericks are coming off a 37-23 loss to #18 Colorado Mines - a game that was winnable. The Mavs had a first half lead on the Orediggers, and at one point, trailed by only 3 in the 4th quarter. The Mavs failed to force a turnover for the first time this season, and the Orediggers put the game away later.

The Mavs got a glimpse of their redshirt freshman running back Daryl Hawkins, who rambled for a season high 142 yards including a 70 yard touchdown run.

Freshman quarterback Andrew Cota started slowly, but finally got the offense going completely 19 of 41 passes for 185 yards and rushing for 75 yards on 10 carries.

The Mavs drop to 5-4 on the season, 4-3 in conference play and it doesn't get any easier this week as they welcome 8th ranked CSU Pueblo.  The Thunderwolves are one of the best teams in the nation,  8-1 overall, 6-1 in the RMAC. But, they aren't invincible. Their lone loss came at the hands of the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, which have just two wins on the season.

Head Coach Russ Martin recognizes how good CSU Pueblo is, but says his team is excited about the challenge of facing a really good team.

The Thunderwolves are led by senior quarterback Chris Bonner, a looming figure at 6-7, 225 pounds. Last week in a win over Black Hills State, Bonner complete 18 of 21 passes for 285 yards, with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. For his performance, Bonner was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Game time is 7pm Saturday at Stocker Stadium. You can catch the action on ESPN Radio 1230 and on-line at 1230ESPN.com.
