Singer Toni Tennille, of the Grammy award winning duo Captain & Tennille is celebrating her 73rd birthday today (May 8). Tennille grew up in a musical family and studied classical piano at Auburn University. While most recognized for her work with her husband Daryl (The Captain) Dragon, she's also sang on other iconic artist's albums.One of the albums Toni Tennille provided background vocals for was Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. She also sang on Art Garfunkel's 'Breakaway' album and contributed vocals to several Elton John songs including 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.'

During the 1970s, she and husband Daryl scored a total of six top five hits including 'Love Will Keep Us Together,' one of multiple Neil Sedaka written songs the couple would record. In a 1975 interview with Dick Clark's American Bandstand, they talked about a new album and revealed part of the reason for using other songwriters tunes.

While the duo is mostly retired, Toni Tennille still performs in and around Prescott, Arizona where they currently reside. Daryl Dragon has developed Parkinson's disease limiting his ability to perform.
