Today (September 24) is National Cherries Jubilee Day and what better way to celebrate than with the delicious taste of cherries, liqueur and ice cream that make this amazing dessert.

Cherries Jubilee got it's name from French chef Auguste Escoffier who prepared the dish for one of Queen Victoria's Jubilee celebrations in the late 1800s.

The dessert is both simple and elegant with many people preferring to have it as part of an evening out rather than prepare it at home, since it requires the cherries and sauce be flambéed and many people are reluctant to set fire to their food.

If you're a bit skilled or perhaps adventurous, Rachel Ray's Food Network recipe is both simple and delicious.
