It only took a few decades, but the promise Carole King's first husband Gerry Goffin made to her when they first met is is finally going to come true.King says she and Goffiin made a deal that if he would write lyrics for hers songs, she would create the music for a Broadway show he wanted to write. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, King says, "The songs took off, and the show idea never came to fruition. Now…we've come full circle." King also says the show is exciting for her because musicals were a major influence on her songwriting.

The show titled 'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical' is scheduled to open in New York spring of 2014. The musical chronicles the life of King from her childhood in Brooklyn through her years songwriting at the Brill Building with Gerry Goffin to her astounding success in the 1970s as a solo artist.

In addition to music written by King and Goffin, the musical is also getting some help from famed songwriting duo Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Douglas McGrath, nominated for for the 1995 Woody Allen film 'Bullets over Broadway,' is also working on the show.
