The pending divorce of the Captain and Tennille is shocking, especially since the couple  is known for songs such as “Love Will Keep Us Together” and “Muskrat Love.” The husband-and-wife pop duo Captain and Tennille are divorcing after 39 years of marriage.

According to ABC News, Cathryn Antoinette “Toni” Tennille filed for divorce from Daryl Dragon, 71, on January 16 in an Arizona court. They were married in November 1974.

The couple met in the early ‘70s when Tennille was the co-writer of a musical and Dragon was a keyboardist for The Beach Boys. It was Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love who reportedly gave him the nickname "Captain." Tennille later joined The Beach Boys on tour as an additional keyboardist.

As a duo, The Captain and Tennille released a number of hits throughout the ‘70s, including "Love Will Keep Us Together," "Do That To Me One More Time," “Shop Around” (previously recorded by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles) and "Muskrat Love."

In 2010, Tennille announced on her blog that Dragon had a neurological disorder similar to Parkinson's and was no longer able to play music as well as he had.

The Captain and Tennille have no children.
