Imagine going to the bathroom to take care of business only to find when you open the toilet lid there's a large sewer rat in your toilet waiting for you.

This scenario sounds like it could be the making of a horror movie. But, is it really possible for a sewer rat to navigate it's way through the sewer pipes and into your home?

As strange and perhaps as frightening as it seems, the answer is, yes. This video not only gives an explanation of how rats can survive in the sewer, but how it's possible - but thankfully unlikely - they can find their way into your house.

We're lucky in western Colorado that rats, at least the sewer variety, aren't of any real concern. Mice, which have a similar anatomy as rats, are common. This explains how those rodents can squeeze themselves through some of the smallest crevices to invade your home.
