It's not my place to tell anyone what to do with their money, but I can offer a word of praise to a group of Broncos players and staff using some of their big salaries to make a difference in our state.

Led by superstar defender Von Miller, the Denver Broncos have made a $200,000 donation to Shield 616. Shield 616 is an organization based in Colorado Springs that purchases body armor and protective gear for law enforcement. The donation will help fund 125 protective kits that include advanced armor that will help protect police officers against high caliber rifle ammunition and automatic weapons.

Miller's pledge to the organization encouraged the participation of 20 of his teammates, along with head Coach Vance Joseph, President and CEO Joe Ellis, and General Manager John Elway. In a press conference Thursday, Miller said Shield 616 is just one of the charities and organizations the Broncos players support.

In 2018, 48 law enforcement officers nationwide were killed by gunfire and two of those were in Colorado.

Whether it's Denver, Grand Junction, or Fruita, police officers put their lives on the line daily - and the better we can protect them, the better they will be able to protect us. Kudos to Von Miller and so many in the Broncos organization for a great gesture to help keep our first responders safe.
