It was an ugly ending to an ugly game. The Indianapolis Colts held on to beat the Denver Broncos thanks in large part to a series of defensive penalties - and a shortage of common sense.

It was the closing minutes of the game with the Broncos trailing by three and needing desperately to get a defensive stop and get the ball back into the hands of Peyton Manning and the offense.

It looked like Von Miller and Colts' offensive lineman Dwayne Allen were exchanging pleasantries when AqibTalib stepped in to offer his own holiday greeting - a fat poke in the eye.

Talib was handed a 15-yard personal foul penalty, giving the Colts a much needed first down. A short time later, Talib was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, adding to the barrage of defensive miscues that helped seal the Broncos' first loss of the season.

The video evidence is pretty clear. It surely looks like Talib poked Allen in the eye, but after the game he told USA Today he didn't really remember exactly what happened. A look at the video evidence should refresh his memory, and that evidence most certainly will result in a hefty fine from the NFL and quite possibly a suspension.

Not only did Talib's lack of common sense and self-control hurt the Broncos' comeback chances against the Colts, it could have future ramifications for the Broncos as well if they have to play without their star defensive back for a game - or more. Honestly, I will be shocked if Talib is not suspended for at least one game.

We can't even begin to defend Aqib Talib's actions. It's not the Broncos' way. The Broncos are about class, respect, and fair play. It's about kicking their opponent's butt, respecting that opponent in victory - and in defeat. We hope this is the last time we witness anything like this in a Broncos' uniform.

We love you, Aquib, but, seriously....c'mon man!

UPDATE: Aqib Talib has in fact been suspended one game by the NFL. Talib is appealing the suspension, and the hearing is expected to take place Tuesday with a ruling the same day.
